In second year there are two course texts that are used to help orient the student to textual studies (Evocative Objects} and the visual vocabulary of design as described by Timothy Samara in “Design Elements: a graphic style manual”. Samara’s text is well illustrated with examples nested into five categories: Form & Space [ a refresher course on design elements and principles], Color Fundamentals [ is an in-depth look at different colour spaces and their respective optical qualities to the impact on type design], Choosing and Using Type [covers methods for selecting, spacing and integrating type and image], The World of Images [looks at semiotics, symbols, storytelling and narrative] and Putting it All Together [describes organizational concerns and a tutorial on using grid systems as structures]. Comprehensive in scope, the pages offer great tips and examples from designers from around the world. No related posts.
