Thank you to Helene Day Fraser, Assistant Professor, Design and Dynamic Media, Textile Product Research and Design, for this explanation about the collaboration between Emily Carr and Lululemon this past year.
To date the project has been made up of three main groups within Emily Carr: A four member research team (Rteam); a Design class (Dteam); and an Art class (Ateam) – encompassed a team of forty-nine university students, researchers, faculty, and technical staff and ten designers from lululemon. Twenty-five student projects, a cultural probe and a series of public interventions were developed during the 2010/2011 academic year under two main themes: safe BELONGINGS and safe TRANSITIONS. This has provided the impetus and material for new product development within lululemon athletica as well as the establishment of a new branch of research at Emily Carr investigating and questioning the existing garment industry paradigm.”
