Foundation Design One – The News

In this foundation year Design 110 class studio assignment, students select newspaper stories and rearrange the given information into a hierarchically clear and formally dynamic composition in a square format. Students explore a number of compositional strategies, including alignments, balance, rhythm, negative space, and image-type relationships. Students are encouraged to select stories based on a theme and to alter information to produce an editorial series on current issues of their interest.

The physical compositions are later scanned, retouched in Photoshop and laid out in InDesign and printed to create a simple booklet.
